With the Pacific Rim Uprising now open in theatres across the world, a movie that shares a lot of things with its predecessor. A big, dumb film about big, cool robots, and for the most part, it’s good fun.
We thought it would be a good idea to reminisce the original film, as it hasn’t been previously covered here on this site.
Back in 2013, Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro released two featurettes titled “Jaegers: Mech Warriors” and “Destroy All Kaiju”. In these two videos, Guillermo reveals several concept art designs and the inspiration behind the giant robots, called Jaegers and giant monsters Kaiju.
Then, in December December 7, 2013, the exhibit ‘Art of Pacific Rim’ was held on at the Gnomon Gallery in Hollywood, California. The exhibit featured works by concept artists Alex Jeager, Allen Williams, Hugo Martin and Francisco Ruiz, as well as physical props used in the feature film.
Below are some of the concept art from the featurettes and that was shown at the exhibit back in 2013. And we aim to cover the art of the sequel, Uprising, within the near future. Also, check out the video compilation at the top of this article.
